As Vice President Kamala Harris has become the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for president, the left-wing media has scrambled to erase her title as President Joe Biden’s “Border Czar.”
Far-left Axios published a story Wednesday trying to obfuscate Harris’ role in the current border crisis.
“Harris border confusion haunts her new campaign,” the headline said.
“Confusion around the VP’s exact role, early media misfires and the rapidly changing regional migration crisis has made the issue a top target for the GOP trying to define their new opponent. And it has become even more critical for Harris to find a clear border message, fast,” the outlet said in the story.
But the Axios narrative that Harris was never actually the “Border Czar” went up in flames shortly after the outlet posted that story on X.
“The Trump campaign and Republicans have tagged Harris repeatedly with the ‘border czar’ title — which she never actually had,” the caption of the outlet’s X post said.

Quickly, the “Community Notes” feature on X pointed out that Axios itself has referred to Harris as “Border Czar.”
“Harris, appointed by Biden as border czar, said she would be looking at the “root causes” that drive migration,” an Axios article from 2021 says.
After being shamed by readers but still, in an attempt to protect Harris from attacks, Axios added the following disclaimer to its Wednesday report:
Editor’s note: This article has been updated and clarified to note that Axios was among the news outlets that incorrectly labeled Harris a “border czar” in 2021.
PolitiFact, a left-wing “fact-checking” outlet that claims impartiality, jumped in to support Harris. It rated claims of her “Border Czar” status as “Mostly False.”
Frequent left-wing cable news talking head and Twitter personality Ron Filipkowski was caught in the crossfire.
“Axios posted a false story in 2021 that Harris was appointed as the ‘Border Czar.’ That didn’t happen. They corrected it. She was tasked with studying the root causes of Latin migration. The media choose to call that job a ‘Border Czar’ because a lot of the time they suck,” he said in post on X.

Shortly NewsBusters researcher Bill D’Agostino posted a clip of Filipowski speaking on MSNBC, in which Filipowski referred to Harris as “Border Czar.”
“This you, Ron?” D’Agostino’s X post asked.

CNN flatly denied that Harris was ever named “Border Czar.”
Illegal immigration has consistently ranked as a top issue for Americans in the 2024 election, and on Harris’ watch, illegal immigration has exploded.
More than 10 million illegal aliens have entered the United States during Biden’s tenure in office, not counting those who authorities have not detected.
